    On October 5th, 2009, a delegation of Swiss Members of Parliament was accompanied by three representatives from the Swiss Embassy in Brussels as they visited the headquarters of the International Polar Foundation in Brussels.     The pictures of the gallery were provided by Martin Siegers to illutrate an interview he gave to SciencePoles about Antarctic Subglacial Lakes and about Lake Ellsworth in particular. These lakes are interesting from a biological, paleo-climatic and glaciological perspective.

    The International Polar Foundation at Sibos 2009

    A selection of pictures taken during Sibos 2009 in Hong-Kong. Sibos is a yearly event bringing together the financial industry. It is organised by SWIFT, one of the main partners of the International Polar Foundation.

  • In the upper right hand corner, you can see the Utsteinen Nunatak with, in the background, the Sør Rondane mountain range.

  • EPDM Under the Floor: a sheet of EPDM liner is placed on the underside of the exterior wood panels for isolation against snow and humidity.

    BELARE 2007-2008: Superstructure and First Modules

    This picture gallery shows how the station has been taking form since the beginning of January. When the wooden superstructure was finished, the first modules were placed against the exterior C-Shaped wooden beams. Although these pictures show a warm blue sky, temperatures have lately been posting an average of -10 °C.
