BELARE 2007-2008: Setting Foot at Utsteinen

Drilling on the Ridge - Drilling rig on superposed granite blocks making up the ridge - the snow has been cleared to build the garage, thus exposing the rock face. Drilling equipment arrived on the 16th of November, and work has begun on the first anchor points.

  • First Convoy - Prinoth hauling supplies from the containers in Breid Bay back to the base camp. Six containers full of wood, fuel and equipment were left for storage during BELARE 2006-2007.
  • Sledge Hammar Down - The Hammar fell into a crevasse on the first traverse to the coast. Luckily the crevasse was quite narrow and it only took the men about 10 minutes to free the Hammar sledge.
