As a leading expert on energy security issues, Dr. Bochkarev was able to talk about oil and gas development in the Arctic, how its exploitation might affect energy prices elsewhere, and how future development of hydrocarbon resources in the Arctic might unfold.

    Tom Barry is the Executive Secretary of the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) working group of the Arctic Council. Mr. Barry talks a bout the work CAFF does, the Artic Biodiversity Assessment (ABA), the Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Programme (CBMP), how CAFF monitors various species, and the benefits CAFF delivers to policymakers and industries such as fisheries.

    Konrad Steffan, Director of the Cooperative Institute for Resaerch in Environmental Studies (CIRES) at the University of Colorado at Boulder, underlines why it is important to monitor the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans and describes how feedbacks accelerate warming in the Arctic.  He also emphasizes the importance of scientists to communicate their findings to policymakers.
