Prospecting for a site for new Antarctic summer station in the foothills of the Sör Røndane mountains began on Saturday 27 November. The team split into two parts, seven members heading towards the targeted "Usteinen Nunatak" area, the other two for the old Japanese "Asuka" station.

On Friday 26 November, using two Antonov airplanes, the Belgo-Japanese team reached the site where the Belgian government will be setting up the future Antarctic scientific summer station.

The weather forecast looks good and the teams have been able to keep to the site survey schedule. We hope that all the analysis work will be completed before the airplanes return, probably on Sunday 5 December.

Stay tuned
