Draft Environmental Evaluation Report For the Princess Elisabeth Station

The presentation of the draft CEE Report regarding the new Belgian Antarctic Station on the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) meeting in Edimburg (Scotland) was very successful.

This means that the project can be pursued without any major obstacles regarding the Committee of Environmental Protection's approval. The next step will be to present the final CEE report at the Delhi 2007 meeting.

The Belgian delegation received feedback from many countries, which were all very enthusiastic about the station design and concepts. Constructive questions and suggestions confirmed the scientific interest in this new Antarctic Research Station and in the use of renewable energy sources and waste management processes.

The project team is of course very pleased about the collective work done with Belgian Science Policy (BELSPO) and all partners involved on this important document.

Following this presentation, the cabinet of the Belgian Minister Marc Verwilghen issued a press release in French and Dutch.
