IPF Founder André Berger awarded the Croix de la Legion d’Honneur

Founding Member of the International Polar Foundation, Prof. André Berger, was created Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, at the French Embassy in November 2004, for his exceptional contribution to scientific research leading to a clearer understanding of climate change mechanisms.

In her address, the Ambassador, Son Excellence Mme Joëlle Bourgois, commended him for his work confirming the hypothesis of the Serbian astronomer Milankovich, concerning astronomical cycles and palaeo-climate theory. She also praised his ongoing effort relating to the identification of extent and impact of human activity on climate.

She said that he had succeeded in training a good number of young scientists to carry on his good work, and had been honored by several universities, and institutions. His relationship with the French scientific establishment had always been fruitful, and she stated that the French republic also wished to honor him for scientific achievements.
