BELAM
The BELAM project, led by researchers from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), focuses on the collection and study of micrometeorites in Antarctica. The blue ice fields near Princess Elisabeth Antarctica provide ideal conditions for preserving and detecting these extraterrestrial particles. During the expedition, the research team spent three weeks camping on the Nansen Ice Field to collect samples. Once returned to Belgium, the micrometeorites are analysed to provide insights into the early history of the Solar System and contribute to the existing collections at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences.
