Kirklareli - Meteorite Survey

A preparation mission to survey the Sør Rondane Mountains and identify potential locations for future Antarctic meteorite research.

Kirklareli University sent a researcher to the region near the Princess Elisabeth Antarctica Station to conduct a survey in preparation for a future meteorite hunting expedition in the Antarctic blue ice fields. The planned expedition, carried out in collaboration with Belgian and Japanese scientists during the 2019-2020 season, aimed to search for meteorites preserved in the Antarctic environment.

Meteorites provide valuable information about the origins and development of the Solar System. The blue ice fields of Antarctica are particularly suitable locations for meteorite searches, as the ice preserves these extraterrestrial materials and their contrast with the surrounding ice makes them easier to identify.
