RINALP

RINALP investigates the evolution of the surface mass balance of the Antarctic Ice Sheet in Queen Maud Land in the context of anthropogenic climate change.

The RINALP project, led by the CRYOS laboratory at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), aims to improve the understanding of changes in the surface mass balance of the Antarctic Ice Sheet in East Antarctica. The project investigates how processes such as snowfall, snow transport, sublimation and atmospheric conditions influence the gain and loss of ice in the Queen Maud Land region. Long-term observations from automatic weather stations and other meteorological instruments near Princess Elisabeth Antarctica provide essential data to study these processes and improve numerical models. The results contribute to a better understanding of how the Antarctic Ice Sheet may respond to future climate change and its potential impact on sea-level rise.
