The BELSPO-funded ULTIMO project with support from the International Polar Foundation and their team spent over a month in close proximity to the Belgica mountain range in East Antarctica searching for meteorites. The logistically challenging expedition was well worth the effort: the team of researchers found 115 meteorites as well as countless micro-meteorites that could potentially help scientists answer questions about the origins of life on Earth as well as shine a light on other big questions about the origins of our solar system.

In January 2025 part of the IPF team climbed the antenna at the Princess Elisabeth Antarctica to install instruments for the EPFL-CRYOS project.
