It is with great sadness that we must communicate with the BELARE community that one of our team members, Craig Masson, passed away on Friday the 16th of May, following an accident at work.

Craig was a much-loved and popular member of the team and had participated in the construction of the Princess Elisabeth Station in the 2007-08 season, and in nine seasons altogether.

A creative technician, he could solve problems with the installations that would defy most people and his quiet humour was much appreciated by all.

Our sincere condolences go to his family, who are devastated by this loss.

"A long-time friend, Craig has been a pillar of the construction and the technical development of the Princess Elisabeth Antarctica Station," IPF Founder and President said of his former colleague. "He always impressed me with his talent, his energy and his ability to find solutions to the many challenges we encountered in our joint projects. This is a chapter in all of our lives that is turning. Thank you, Craig, for all you have been to us.”

A farewell ceremony will take place on Friday, the 23rd of May at 2:00 pm at the Ciney Crematorium and Memorial Park in the Heart of Wallonia, Rue du Cimetière 13, Ciney.

C’est avec une grande tristesse que nous devons communiquer à la communauté BELARE que l’un de nos membres d’équipe, Craig Masson, est décédé le vendredi 16 mai à la suite d’un accident du travail.

Craig était un membre très apprécié et populaire de l’équipe. Il avait participé à la construction de la Station Princess Elisabeth durant la saison 2007-08, et avait été présent pendant neuf saisons au total.

Technicien créatif, il savait résoudre des problèmes complexes que peu de personnes auraient pu surmonter, et son humour discret était très apprécié de tous.

Nos sincères condoléances vont à sa famille, profondément affectée par cette perte.

« Ami de longue date, Craig a joué un rôle clé dans la construction et le développement technique de la station Princesse Élisabeth en Antarctique », a déclaré Alain Hubert, fondateur et président de la Fondation polaire internationale. « Il m'a toujours impressionné par son talent, son énergie et sa capacité à trouver des solutions aux nombreux défis rencontrés dans nos projets communs. C'est un tournant dans nos vies. Merci, Craig, pour tout ce que tu as apporté à notre équipe. »

Une cérémonie d’adieu aura lieu ce vendredi 23 mai à 14 heures au Crématorium et Parc Mémorial du Cœur de Wallonie, Rue du Cimetière 13, Ciney.

Het is met groot verdriet dat we de BELARE-gemeenschap moeten meedelen dat één van onze teamleden, Craig Masson, op vrijdag 16 mei is overleden ten gevolge van een arbeidsongeval.

Craig was een zeer geliefd en gewaardeerd lid van het team. Hij nam deel aan de bouw van het Princess Elisabeth Station tijdens het seizoen 2007-08 en was in totaal betrokken bij negen seizoenen.

Als creatieve technicus kon hij problemen met installaties oplossen die voor de meesten onoplosbaar leken, en zijn subtiele humor werd door iedereen gewaardeerd.

Onze oprechte deelneming gaat uit naar zijn familie, die zwaar getroffen is door dit verlies.

"Craig was een goede vriend en een steunpilaar bij de bouw en technische ontwikkeling van het Prinses Elisabeth-station in Antarctica," aldus Alain Hubert, oprichter en voorzitter van de International Polar Foundation. "Hij heeft mij altijd onder de indruk gebracht met zijn talent, zijn energie en zijn vermogen om oplossingen te vinden voor de vele uitdagingen die we tegenkwamen in onze gezamenlijke projecten. Het is een bladzijde in ons leven die wordt omgeslagen. Bedankt, Craig, voor wat je voor ons hebt betekend."

De afscheidsceremonie vindt plaats op vrijdag 23 mei om 14.00 uur in het Crematorium en Herdenkingspark van het Hart van Wallonië, Begraafplaatsstraat 13, Ciney.
