The Belgica ship was frozen into the Antarctic sea ice and the crew had to spend months in the dark and freezing conditions before they were able to free the ship again and sail back to Europe.

The first 12 members of the 2024-25 BELARE team arrive in Antarctica at Ultima Air Base. From here, they will take a feeder flight to reach the Princess Elisabeth Antarctica 400 km away.
